Openbox is by far the most customizable of the environments listed here. In fact, it is so customizable that it is not actually considered a desktop environment. Because it lacks the features that most users traditionally associate with a desktop, Openbox is really more of a stand-alone window manager. Users must install their own seperate wallpaper manager, compositor, and dock/taskbars. However, because none of these are provided out of the box, Openbox gains a reputation for having extremely little overhead.
